La “Villa París” se constituye en un libro abierto que representa la arquitectura y el arte de la época colonial del siglo XVIII, antes de que nazca la República de Bolivia, cuando existían construcciones muy importantes en el contexto del centro urbano de ese entonces y se pudieron realizar edificaciones de casonas y palacetes que, seguramente, en su época, eran las más lujosas en el entorno urbano de Nuestra Señora de La Paz, hoy denomina “Ciudad Maravilla”.
“Villa París” es un edificio patrimonial que pertenece al Museo Nacional de Arte (MNA) y está ubicado en pleno kilómetro cero de la sede de Gobierno, sobre las calles Comercio y Yanacocha, antes conocida como la calle de “Los Mercaderes”, un patrimonio arquitectónico escondido que actualmente está siendo restaurado, en su tercera fase, para recobrar su magnificencia y la memoria histórica de La Paz.
Mediante un Decreto Supremo, en 1963, la casa “Villa París” fue declarada Patrimonio Monumental.
En una visita que hizo la Agencia Boliviana de Información (ABI) a la “Villa París”, en compañía del maestro y artista plástico Ramiro Mendieta, ingresando por uno de sus pasillos se percibió los ruidos de martillazos y mucho movimiento de albañilería; en el primer patio se observó una hermosa portada de piedra, que en su arco superior tiene la inscripción “Enero-1768”, fecha en que esa casona se terminó de construir y que, pese a su deterioro, se muestra señorial y remonta a la época colonial.
“Es una portada de piedra, su estilo está ligado al barroco andino, por los elementos que tienen sus columnas; en la parte superior un elemento, techo en piedra, que con el tiempo ha sufrido algunas agresiones y deterioros que ha hecho que se pierdan algunos diseños originales. Toda la portada tiene elementos líticos florales y rosetones que también están en el contorno del patio que han estado cubiertos por muchos años, pero que se están descubriendo”, describe Mendieta con mucha emotividad.
En el recorrido por la “Villa París”, en uno de los salones de la segunda planta se descubrieron pedazos de muros de piedra y la tecnología de los paramentos en esa época que se trabajaba con carrizos, explica.
“En ese entonces, se aplicaban tientos de vaca (lonjas de cuero de vaca), tanto en las paredes como en los techos y, en vez de yeso, se usaba el barro mezclado con mucilagos, un líquido extraído del cactus, con ello se iban modelando las formas de las construcciones”, detalló el experto.
Continuando con el recorrido, se observó en las paredes, cerca al techo, varias venestas que dicen “precaución pintura mural”, y que fueron descubiertas en el proceso de restauración.
“Estas pinturas son fito formes, es decir flores, hojas, vegetación, animales, aves exóticas muy interesantes y hay también algunos retratos de personajes. Hay algunas reproducciones de una escena marina, otra escena de unos caballos, soldados con vestimenta napoleónica que seguramente eran copias de grabados que llegaban de España a la América colonial”, describe Mendieta.
Otro detalle de la infraestructura arquitectónica es el piso original de ladrillo “pastelero”, que es de esa época y se caracteriza por las superficies cuadradas.
El edificio pertenecía originalmente al Oidor Francisco Tadeo Diez de Medina quien, durante el cerco a la ciudad de La Paz (1780 – 1782), desempeñó un papel importante en la resistencia, relato que se encuentra en el «Diario del alzamiento de indios conjurados contra la ciudad de Nuestra Señora de La Paz», libro de María Eugenia del Valle de Siles, con base en el diario de Francisco Tadeo Diez de Medina, en el que se relata los pormenores del famoso cerco, según narró el maestro Mendieta.
En el recorrido por el MNA se tomó contacto con su director, Iván Castellón, quien informó que se realizaron trabajos de refacción desde gestiones pasadas en una primera fase, se intervino los techos y algunos muros que estaban caídos; en la fase 2 se habilitó salones de exposición que ya están prestando servicio a los artistas y a la población.
